On June 29, 1920, Raymond Frederick Harryhausen was born, and at the very young age of 13, his life was forever transformed by Willis O’Brien’s groundbreaking King Kong (1933). That spark of wonder ignited a career that would redefine stop-motion animation and inspire generations of filmmakers. Ray Harryhausen, who left us on May 7, 2013, crafted a legacy that continues to shape modern CGI and captivate audiences worldwide. To honor this legend, Stop Motion Works & Retro FX is declaring June, as a month-long Harryhausen Festival, culminating in a celebration of his birthday! Join us as we revisit his timeless classics through embedded videos here, perfect for fans eager to relive the magic or discover it anew. From Jason and the Argonauts to The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, let’s embark on a marathon of Ray’s iconic creations, celebrating the artistry and imagination of a true cinematic pioneer.
The Harryhausen films here are available for FREE viewing. I was definitely surprised, so watch them while they are still available. Because these films are Ad supported, you usually have to watch directly at the Youtube site. I provided "Direct Links" to each of the films on Youtube.
NOTE: If you do not see some of the videos below, try to reload/refresh your browser a few times. Option - You can watch here & click on the video play arrow, or just go directly to the videos and you can watch there.
The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) → or direct Link (free)

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1974) - or direct Link (free)
All of the above films were overseen by Ray Harryhausen as the primary auteur & head of the special visual effects , however, the 1949 'Mighty Joe Young' was a Willis O'brien project, and Ray served as the lead animator. Other animators also contributed but Ray was the one who usually animated the complex scenes. You can watch for free, a poor copy here of → Mighty Joe Young ... also, it is a weak colorized version.
